Why strategy games are so hard to get right on touch

Strategy is my favorite genre and also the one that suffers most on phones. The whole appeal is precise, deliberate control, and fat fingers on a small screen fight that at every turn. When a game like Iron Tide Command gets it right, you notice immediately.

The trick seems to be radial menus and generous hitboxes. Tap a unit, get a clean ring of options, no hunting for a tiny button. Drag-to-plot routes beat tap-tap-tap micromanagement every time.

Zoom matters too. The best mobile strategy games let you pull back to plan and push in to execute without losing track of where everything is. Lose that and you're just squinting.

My takeaway after years of these: judge a strategy game by its first ten minutes of control, not its features list. If the controls fight you early, the depth won't save it later.
